The Varian "Smartbeam"
A Medical Device That Will Change The World.
Prostate
Cancer - Few ever talk about it, and it can strike anytime. Most men over
the age of 50 should be checked with a simple annual exam. About ten years
ago my extremely knowledgeable Chinese practioner, Lium Ng, M.D., spotted
my prostate problem and in effect put my prostate in "suspended animation"
(my words). With the use of repeated 90-day injections of Atorvastatin (Zoladex)
it helped extended my life by those 10 years. Others should be so lucky
to get such a doctor. But for those who leave it too late, there's now a
new, trendy alternative to the 'Slash/Burn/Poison' treatment of prostate
cancer that is relatively unintrusive.
As shown
below left, The "Varian Smartbeam", a new medical device that uses laser-directed,
computer-controlled pinpoint radiation to destroy cancer cells in the prostate
without surgical intrusion. It only destroys cancer cells without any serious
damage but slight bruising to healthy cells. To the right, Dr. Tomorrow
models for us it's operation (He doesn't just talk about technology, he takes
'Test Flights'. PS. He's not really that fat, he has to drink 24 ounces
of water 30 minutes prior to activation for his bladder to inflate and push
up the bowels so they will not be in the firing line of the pin-point photonic
radiation). The Varian machine rotates around the body; the patient doesn't
have to move.

Post-treatment Note: Ogden's PSA (prostate-specific antigen) had
climbed to 22.9 prior to treatment. After 35 continuous days of treatment,
each lasting just five minutes and ending on Feb 11/04, his PSA had dropped
to 13 on Feb 23/04. By March 30/04 it was 8.5. By April 30/04 it was down
to 5.7. By May 28/04 it was down to 4.5. On June 29th, Ogden's PSA took another
drop to 2.9. On Sept 13 it dropped again to 1.5. Then on Sept 28 to 1.3.
(This was just a short 20-day monitoring period. Now back on a regular monthly monitoring)
On Wednesday Oct 27/04 Ogden's PSA droppd to 0.9. That's about a 98 percent reduction.
As it leveled off it hit a spike of 1.03 on Nov. 29/04, dropped to 1.0 on Dec. 31/04.
It then dropped back to a record low of 0.84 on Feb. 07/05 and finally to 0.90 on
Feb. 28th/05. After a physical rectal exam by Oncologist Graeme Duncan, M.D. on
Thursday March 10/05 he announced to Ogden that "Your prostate check was all clear".
Ogden wishes to continue with his present regime with Dr Lium Ng, M.D. until his PSA goes
"below Zero". On March 28th his PSA dropped to an all-time low of 0.82. After reaching
the "Plateau Zone" Ogden's PSA for April 28th rose to 1.00, then dropped slightly to 0.99 on May 31/05.
Still in the "Plateau Zone", Ogden's PSA for June 28/05 rose to 1.02 and then dropped on July 26/05 to 0.88. His PSA on August 29/05 went down to 0.85 (more than five points below normal).
His Sept. figure rose to 0.95, followed by October climbing slightly to 1.00.

The upper centre
picture is very high-resolution picture of what's happening inside. As you
can see a lay person can understand this clarity, an image light-years away
from MRI, Ultrasound or ancient X-Rays While we state above that each
treatment took five minutes, that included preparation time. The maximum
actual radiation time each day ran between three and seven seconds, times 4.
That's a maximum of 28 seconds a day. That, times 35, works out to the treatment
only totalling sixteen minutes maximum over the 35 days. Ever hear of anyone
conquering such a problem in sixteen minutes!
This scan lets
you see how this device pinpoints cancer cells can be directly targeted and
destroyed, with the help of your local oncologist and therapists. Frank
Ogden's oncologist throughout this treatment was:
GRAEME DUNCAN, M.D., CANCER CLINIC OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, VANCOUVER, B.C.
