Disturbing World

It was over a decade ago when Frank Ogden – also known as "Dr. Tomorrow" in his native North America – predicted that by the turn of the millennium, up to 50% of television would be created by so called amateurs. Five years ago Frank suggested that the 500-channel universe of TV broadcasting would explosively morph into a
billion channel alternate universe.

It’s happening. During the first 36 hours of a fashion show being launched on the Internet from California, one and a half million people tried to get into the show. Frank decided to climb aboard every facility and is the first global narrow-caster to run "Radio with a Face" show on Swatch or Internet time, where zones vanish and are replaced
by the one thousand "Beats" (Each equivalent to 86.4 seconds of the old time) emanating from the meridian of here and now at Biel, Switzerland.

Frank chose the 708 ‘Beat’ time (that’s 8.0 am in his hometown of Vancouver BC, Canada for his once weekly webcam. This means he is producing, directing and starring in his own website, from the comfort of his armchair on his houseboat, surrounded by satellite systems and communications from all over the world.

I listen. Whenever Frank Ogden expounds on theories of the computer world and predicts what will be seen via the computer screen, you can be sure you are hearing his version of "Tomorrow’s World." And he hasn’t been wrong yet!

With us in Europe, it’s money. It won’t be long before we are all talking in Euros. The next thing we will be talking of, on a wold wise basis, is – Beats. Sure enough Frank was wearing a watch showing the time in beats, which avoids the necessity of converting the time in another part of the world.

Making his long overdue visit to Puerto Pollensa, Frank will hold an audience spellbound. He is predicting that communications will be implanted in the body. No battery will be necessary. Implants will be operated by body electricity. "Have you heard about Cattle kids?" he asked. "What’s that?" I ventured.

It’s the procedure of an egg implanted in the cow. A fertile human egg in the cow (both DNA Stripped) will then have the best nature can offer. "After all" said Frank, "a cow doesn’t do drugs, does not drink alcohol, doesn’t smoke, and won’t get aids". Wait a minute I thought, "What about mad cow disease?" Anyway, it appears they are working on the theory that a larger, healthier, more intelligent baby will be the result. A bit beyond my line of vision, I’m afraid, but there are some strange things happening when the science buffs get their ideas in motion.

But back to the safer ground of communication. Frank and his wife Carol recently made a trip to the Middle East Persian Gulf States. "They are way ahead" said Frank, having noted the use of computers, satellite, internet and the web and it was while on a camel ride that the camel driver told Frank that he would contact him in Vancouver.

Sure enough, by way of the Nokia 9000 digital, Mohidean was astride his camel sending his messages.

It is the first time visit for Frank’s daughter Lodei, and she was enamoured of the island within a couple of days. I asked her if her father’s machine-gun, fast-talking had rubbed off on her. "not-at-all", she said. She also added that her father’s addiction to communications and time will be ever-present. "We have instructions to cremate
when he passes to the other side. The ashes are to be finely ground and placed into a large egg timer. This way Frank insists he will always be on the move even when he is gone. There will always be someone to turn him over!"

Welcome back to Puerto Pollensea, Dr. Tomorrow. You are a tonic, even tho’ my brain is burned out with the new technology that is part of everyday life to you. China is the latest country to have warmed to Frank’s literature. His books are now available in Spanish and the Chinese translations of The Last Book You’ll Ever Read; Lifestyle Plus and Beyond Technology are available in the Chinese language. When I was handed them to look at, I started at the front. Wrong. The beginning is the last page. Ah well, you learn something new every day, especially with Frank Ogden around!
