LEARN TO LOVE LOW TECH TOO
In an age that constantly offers more things we simply must have,
storage space itself becomes still another thing we need. If you run
into this problem living in a traditional house, imagine a two-storey
houseboat home with a total floor area of 800 square feet including the
balcony. Discipline becomes the order of the day. That isn't all bad,
but you certainly learn to use every square inch of space: floor, cubage
or hanging. The latest slick storage item is The Closet Carousel,
developed by White Home Products, the people who pioneered the conveyor
systems at most drycleaning establishments.
A seldom realized, but important point, is "what is it costing to
store all this junk?" When you consider that home construction costs now
run about $100 per square foot range, wasted space becomes a financial
burden.
What to do? Do what the dry cleaners do. Bring the clothes to you and
avoid fighting with awkward storage spaces.
With a push of a button Closet Carousel provides more storage space
and more living space. Because clothes are now delivered to you by this
electronic valet, space is not wasted on walk-in aisles. An additional
46 square feet created at home, translates into $4,600 worth of living
space with maximized storage capacity. Looking at it this way makes it
easier to spend some time and money making more efficient use of
available space.
A revolving oval track carries clothes to you courtesy of a
bidirectional motor that eliminates most of the stretching, pulling or
lifting demanded by traditional closets. Clothing can be viewed more
easily within easy-to-organize sections such as spring, winter, summer
and fall or by style or color. With traditionally inaccessible storage
areas freed up or within existing closet space, built-in shelving and
drawers can take advantage of, and produce even more storage space.
Although no one yet has been able to multiply space without building new
space, this system does make it appear so.
Closet Carousel units come in 10 sizes to fit closet lengths from six
to 15 feet. All units are UL and CSA certified, come with attached
plug-in cord and surface mounted or in-wall start/stop switches, and run
on standard household current. For the elderly, handicapped, and the old
home or the luxury home buyer these systems could be most energy and
cost efficient.
The company also offers other systems designed for bathrooms,
kitchens, laundry rooms, and even home offices that are efficient,
practical and look luxurious.
