STAMPS AT A DISCOUNT

Have you ever wished someone would take over Canada Post? To eliminate those long lineups? That often less than pleasant service? That two week delay that sometimes occurs in getting letters delivered across town? And, have you ever, like me, written Canada Post in Ottawa and waited nearly a year for a reply!

Though the U.S. Mail isn't as bad as ours -- and they even make a profit sometimes! -- they at least have been open to help. It has now arrived.

U.S. postage stamps can now be purchased at a 24 percent discount! We should be so lucky.

Here is how it works: In the U.S. a customer buys a package of "AD-Stamps" containing 20 U.S. Postage Stamps for $1 less than face value. These stamps require no licking, (have you been stuck with any of those "glueless" Canadian stamps from the Post Office vending machines) and come with a ready-stick adhesive. They also come with a colorful advertising message, which permits the substantial saving.

The idea is similar to television -- it's "ad supported". For both parties, sender and receiver, reading the message someone -usually the advertiser, is willing to subsidize your postage bill. Seems much fairer than the taxpayer being saddled with rediculous postal deficits each year.

Advertisers can also put additional coupon offers under the peelable stamps thus saving money for both advertiser and customer if you decide to take advantage of whatever that offer turns out to be.

For the advertiser and the user several pluses. It can't be ignored. It creates business and this creates jobs. It's efficiency introduced into an old age system. It may be the first new ad medium since the introduction of TV commercials 42 years ago. But this message can't be zapped! More information: David A. Lloyd, Director, American Discount Stamps, 320, 16800 Imperial Valley Drive, Houston, Texas 77060. Phone (713) 445-3200
